This is one of the larger pieces I'm exploring. I loved the lower half, the knots and shapes had great character. The upper portion was more subdued, so I opened up some natural cracks from the drying process and carved them deeper to give them prominence.
The cracks followed the wood's natural form, which made the carved channels feel organic rather than forced. Most of what you see is hand-carved, but it reads as if the wood always looked this way.
Specs:
Location Found: 47°N 122°W
Species: Madrone
Sanded: 240 grit
Finish: Natural Bees Wax
Bulb: 12V E10 LED (replaceable)
Switch: Maritime-rated water-resistant boat switch, recessed into wood
Cord: Braided
